New decisions to raise the criteria for selecting lecturers and evaluators for Asian elite referees

The Referees Committee of the Asian Football Confederation has approved a number of decisions aimed at raising the criteria for accession and selection for the assessors and lecturers of elite referees in the AFC, without relying on the “Futuro 3” courses held by the International Football Association.



 This came during the sixth meeting of the committee, which was held yesterday in Malaysia, headed by Du Zhaokai, Chairman of the Committee, and with the participation of Ali Hamad Al-Badwawi, member of the Board of Directors of the Football Association, member of the Referees Committee of the Asian Football Confederation.



The Referees Committee made new changes to these criteria as part of its efforts to improve the selection process, which included the requirement that the assessors and lecturers of elite referees in the AFC have at least 5 years experience within the list of elite referees, instead of the current standard that requires having two years experience, and that they be less than Age 65 at the date of January 1 of the year of nomination, good command of written and spoken English, as the new requirements included, to be working effectively as referee lecturers in a national association.



The Asian Football Confederation announced that, as part of its efforts to improve the selection of elite referees' evaluators, it will take into account retired elite referees who have experience in the previous edition of the World Cup, as well as retired elite referees, who worked in the field of development and training of referees in the AFC, after an evaluation process based on by the Continental Confederation.



The committee commended the performance of the Asian referees, who continued to shine in the most important world championships, through the assignments they received in various AFC and International Football Associations, regional and international tournaments.



For their part, the members of the committee expressed their happiness with the AFC’s keenness and follow-up to the process of developing referees by organizing several workshops and training courses that were held since the previous meeting, as well as the prominent role of the Referees Academy and the Arbitration Stars Program in the Continental Union.
