The games of the women's national soccer team will continue to be broadcast by ARD and ZDF in the future.

The broadcasters secured a new rights package after negotiations with the German Football Association.

According to the association, this includes qualifying and friendly international matches for the DFB women in the 2023/24 season up to and including 2026/27.

"It is planned to show at least two matches per year in the evenings in prime time," said a statement on Wednesday.

Evening games have recently been the constantly expressed wish of the players.

ARD chairman Tom Buhrow was pleased "to be able to broadcast the games of the women's national team in the long term".

The association does not provide any information on the volume of contracts for the national team.

New contracts for the women's Bundesliga

There are also new media contracts for the women's Bundesliga.

All games will run on two pay TV channels from summer 2023.

DAZN and Telekom are allowed to broadcast the 132 games via their Magentasport offer.

In addition, there will be 22 games on free-to-air TV on Sport1 and ten games on ARD and ZDF.

Sport1 replaces Eurosport and shows the newly introduced Monday game from next year.

ARD and ZDF, DAZN, Magentasport and also Sky can show the highlights of all games.

The six games on a match day from Friday to Monday will each have their own kick-off time.

Also because the league games will be shown on various channels in the future, the revenues will increase by 1600 percent to 5.175 million euros per season.

According to DFB Managing Director Holger Blask, the award of the new rights package put the Bundesliga second behind England in terms of revenue.

"This goes hand in hand with the responsibility to take further steps towards professionalism," he said.

According to the DFB, how the proceeds will be distributed should “still be discussed”.

Interest in the league is already growing significantly.

According to Telekom, more than twice as many viewers have been following the live broadcast of the games on Magentasport since this season as in the previous season.

In addition, 23,200 spectators came to the start of the season between Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich (0-0).

That was the highest attendance ever at a league game.

Players and those responsible hope that public attention will continue.

This is the way to more gender equality.

Even if a comparison with the men's Bundesliga is out of the question (1.1 billion euros per season), those responsible for the DFB apparently did everything right in the auction that has now ended.

"We deliberately put the time after the European Championship because we hoped that the national team would trigger enthusiasm," said Blask: "We could hardly achieve more visibility." About the increased interest, he said: "We hope for a significant increase of ranges.

Monday evening is also a huge opportunity because no other league plays there.”

The number of spectators also looked good for the national team.

26,835 visitors came to Dresden last Friday for the first home game after the European Championship finals.

In addition, an average of 3.23 million viewers on ARD saw the 2-1 win against France in the new edition of the European Championship semifinals.
