Two years ago, Oliver Solberg signed a two-year contract with Hyundai and for this season he was promoted to drive the team's third car in the main WRC class in the World Rally Championship.

Now Hyndai has chosen not to extend Solberg's contract and the reason is the lack of experience.

- The plan was a two-year contract together to invest in the future.

But they changed quickly.

The plan was that we would go for younger drivers, but we got new management and they only wanted to invest in experienced drivers, says Solberg.

How was it to get the message?

- It is clear that it was tough.

It has not been an easy year in the team.

The team is not exactly in a good position and there has not been a good atmosphere in the team.

But it's always more fun to have somewhere to drive, even if it's not always easy or fun.

In a way, it's nice to be out, from all the politics and all the crap that was in the team.

But it was still a fantastic opportunity to drive the WC.

After Greece's WC rally in September, an internal conflict flared up between the stable's two big stars, Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville.

Tänak believed that Neuville would let him win because Tänak is better placed in the championship, but Neuville still took the win.

"May take the time it takes"

For 21-year-old Solberg, it is currently not clear where he will drive next season, but the goal is to drive the WRC again.

- There are two more teams.

We are in contact with everyone and have all doors open and see what can happen, says Solberg and continues:

- Hyundai said that I am the only fast younger driver who can keep up with Rovanperä (Kalle ed. note).

They said sorry but that they couldn't give me a plan for the future.

But I hope I will get the chance again.

Does it feel like they've gone behind your back?

- You can say that.

It was a great relationship, I made a lot of friends and had a great time, but the difference in what they promised and what turned out was very shocking.

What are the possibilities if you don't get a place in the WRC?

- All possibilities exist in WRC2, of course.

Several people have contacted me and said that I will get a full season immediately.

But that's not something I have as a plan right now.

It may take the time it takes.
