American Brittney Griner is awaiting a new hearing in Russia, scheduled for October 25, as she appealed a nine-year prison sentence for drug possession.

According to Cherelle Griner, her wife could potentially be moved to a labor camp elsewhere in Russia after the new ordeal.

Cherelle Griner also says that her wife is afraid of being forgotten by the United States.

- She is very afraid of being abandoned and forgotten in Russia, or of being exploited, says Cherelle Griner in American CBS.

Russia wants to change its arms dealer

US President Joe Biden met with Cherelle Griner at the White House last month.

He also sat down with Elizabeth Whelan, sister of Paul Whelan, another American currently imprisoned in Russia.

The Biden administration said in July that it had submitted a "substantial proposal" to bring home Griner and Whelan.

However, no details of the proposal have been made public.

According to Russian and American media reports, Russia may agree to exchange Griner for arms dealer Viktor But, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence in the United States.
