Aaron Judge is one of the brightest stars in baseball and this year has chased Roger Maris' American League record of 61 home runs set in 1961.

Last week, Judge Maris' record was tied.

A figure that the 30-year-old passed last night.

- It is a great relief.

It's been a fun ride so far.

"To get a chance to do this ... to get a chance to have his name next to greats like Roger Maris and Babe Ruth and those other guys is incredible," Judge said.

The American baseball league MLB is divided into two halves, the American League and the National League.

The official MLB record for home runs in a season is held by Barry Bonds with 73 in the 2021 season.

Mari's record had been beaten six times before last night, once by Bonds, twice by Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa on three occasions.

However, all of them have been involved in doping scandals, which means that Judge's record setting is considered by many to be the "real" record.
