An exchange of jerseys at the end of the match

During this quarter-final against England, Diego Maradona scored the two winning goals (2-1).

The Argentine football legend, who died in November 2020 at the age of 60, first pushed the ball with his hand against the English goalkeeper.

Four minutes later, he deceived several opponents to score the "goal of the century".

Argentina won the World Cup that year.

At the end of the match, Maradona swapped shirts with England midfielder Steve Hodge.

The latter lent the jersey to a museum in Manchester for twenty years before putting it up for auction in May, breaking a record.

Since then, a Michael Jordan jersey sold for $10.1 million in mid-September, becoming the most expensive new sporting item in the world.

“Symbols of human passion”

Maradona's jersey will be displayed alongside other iconic items from football history.

We already find in the museum a ball from the first final of the World Cup in 1930, the first writing of the rules of football, a bronze of the right foot of the emblematic Brazilian player Pelé or other jerseys worn by the great Sport.

“Many of the exhibits at the Sports Museum are symbols of human passion with long and moving stories,” commented Sheikha Al Mayassa.

“These objects now have a life of their own in global culture – inspiring emotions, evoking memories and sparking dialogue.
