Over 100 dead in violence after an Indonesian league match.

It was the first thing that reached Brwa Nouri when he woke up this morning.

- I felt some kind of despair.

I thought about all the people who died and I thought about the number.

It will be a number, but when you see it in perspective, it is improbable, indescribable, just sad, he says.

Brwa Nouri has been playing for Bali United since 2018 and during those years he has experienced a lot of violence during matches.

- Lots of violence, unfortunately.

It's crazy to say, he says and continues:

- The league is stopped pretty much every year.

No league since I came here has been played from start to finish without any stoppage.

My first year I managed to be here for maybe a month before there was a death.

There was a supporter who came to the arena and he was simply wearing the wrong shirt, then they killed him and the league was stopped.

No less eager to play

Does this make you less inclined to continue playing there?

- I don't know what the right answer is, but it doesn't.

The first time it happened I had been here for a month and it was sick.

- The culture is very threatening.

It's not great fun playing away games against this kind of team and supporters, but I'm not afraid.

I have never ridden with anxiety or worry.

I have no thoughts of leaving, even if you have been cautious after games when you have won away to this type of team.

"We've had to wait in the center circle"

Nouri explains how it can happen when you win away against so-called high-risk teams.

- There have been matches where we have won against such teams away and we have not had time to run out to the players' tunnel.

Then we've had to wait in the center circle and barricade ourselves with policemen until they make sure it's safe for us to enter the dressing room.

In May, the WC will be played in Indonesia.

Whether the international football association Fifa will act after this scandal is currently unclear.

- It was one thing that was thought of, that the U20 World Cup should be played here.

When things like this happen, Fifa will have an eye on how to handle this in Indonesia, says Nouri.
