Collapsed roof of a stadium in Chile causes injuries to fans

Several fans were injured after part of the Monumental Stadium in Santiago collapsed yesterday during an open training organized by the Chilean Colo Colo team.

Footage on social media showed hundreds of fans in the amphitheater before a roof collapsed due to the overload.

"We regret the events that occurred today, as a group of people did not respect the minimum standards of behavior by climbing a publicity structure, which caused his downfall," the Colo-Colo club said in a statement.

"Unfortunately, some of the participants in climbing the structure were injured and taken to the nearest medical center," he added.

The club did not specify the number of injured.

Kolo Kolo indicated that he will remove the damaged part to avoid similar accidents in the future.

And Colo Colo's open training is usually for the team at home before important matches, as it prepares to face Universidad Católica in a local summit on Sunday.

A domestic cup match between Católica and Universidad de Chile was halted on Wednesday after a goalkeeper was injured by fireworks.
