A boxer dies days after being hit by a "knockout"

Colombian junior boxer Luis Quinones, who specializes in welterweight, died last Thursday night, after losing five days ago by knockout in a match against Jose Muñoz in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The 25-year-old boxer has a record of 10 wins to one defeat and fell into a coma after falling to the ground in the eighth round of the fight, according to ESPN.

Quadrilatero Boxing, which promoted the fight, issued a statement on social media after Quinones' death was announced at North General Medical Center in Barranquilla.


"Quadrilatero Boxing is deeply saddened by the death of Luis Quinones, an exceptional and disciplined figure who has always shown the greatest commitment to the sport. Luis was so passionate about boxing that he left his hometown of Barrancabermeja to continue his career in Barranquilla with the hope of becoming a national sporting champion," the statement read.
