The AFC Competitions Committee decided to recommend Qatar to host the 2024 Asian Cup for U-23 teams, during the fifth meeting held today, Friday, in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

After a comprehensive analysis of the candidate files and a total evaluation of the various main aspects, Qatar, which will host the 2022 World Cup finals between November 20 and December 18, was chosen by the committee that studied 5 candidate files, which also included Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. and Uzbekistan.

The committee, which met under the chairmanship of Dr. Tran Quoc Tuan, praised the strong pace of most member national federations to recover after the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the wake of the decline in the impact of the pandemic on the continent of Asia, the Committee agreed to submit a recommendation to the Executive Office to suspend the operation of the rules of operations applicable in the AFC competitions during the Covid-19 pandemic, as of 2023.

At the same time, the members of the Committee took note of the challenges faced by many national federations and clubs, during their participation in the tournaments, as they continued to search for ways to deal with the complications resulting from this pandemic.
