What is the Nations Cup?

The Nations Cup is the International Equestrian Federation's series for nation competitions.

During the year, sub-competitions are ridden in seven different leagues worldwide;

Europe, North and Central America, South America, Middle East, Asia, Africa and Eurasia.

In the sub-competitions, the nations collect points and how many nations then go to the finals from each league varies depending on the size of the league.

Sweden belongs to the European league where seven teams go to the final.

Before this year's final, Sweden entered the starting field late after failing to qualify during the regular qualifying rounds.

When other teams dropped out, the question went according to the order of rotation list to Sweden, who agreed to a place.

Where is the Nations Cup season finale decided?

For the ninth consecutive year, the season finale of the Show Jumping Nations Cup will be held at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona, the same arena that hosted the equestrian events at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

How is the Nations Cup final decided?

Each nation consists of four riders.

All teams ride the first round on Friday according to a drawn starting order.

The three best results in each team count and the one with the fewest errors wins.

If several teams in the first round have the same number of errors in eighth place, the combined time of the three best crews in the team will decide.

The top eight teams in the first round advance to Sunday's final, and the remaining teams ride the Challenge Cup on Saturday.

In Saturday's Challenge Cup, where the teams in ninth place and worse in the first round compete, the team with the least number of errors wins when the three best results in each team are added together.

If the team in first place has the same number of errors, the team rides a time jump.

The eight best teams ride in the final on Sunday, according to the same rules as Saturday's Challenge Cup.

The final is also an opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the highest placed team over the weekend that has not already qualified takes the Olympic ticket.

Sweden is already ready for the 2024 Olympics because it won the World Cup in 2022. The total prize money in Sunday's final is 1,250,000 euros.

Which riders will compete for Sweden at the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona 2022?

Linda Heed with Laurien van Orshof Irma Karlsson with Chaconnu Evelina Tovek with Winnitou de la Hamente Z Wilma Hellström with Cicci BJN Stephanie Holmén with Flip´s Little Sparrow

Which four will ride in the team will be announced in connection with the competition.

What does expert Lotta Björe think?

- It is very fun and good that it is Swedish in the final.

Precisely that we are building for the future with this team, that is important.

The WC crew cannot ride everything for Sweden in the future and then we have to give experience to crews who can do the job going forward.

The building for the future has also come a long way with the five final riders.

Stephanie Holmén, Evelina Tovek and Linda Heed have been championship reserves, Irma Karlsson has ridden the World Cup final and Wilma Hellström has ridden several Nations Cups for Sweden this year with good results.

- It is a team that could achieve great results.

But it will be a tough challenge.

Sometimes it's also good to overcome a bit of a disadvantage, you have everything to win, says Lotta Björe.

From the other teams, among other top riders such as the former Olympic champion and three-time World Cup winner Steve Guerdat, Switzerland, will start.

WC and Olympic bronze medalist Maikel van der Vleuten and silver medalist at the WC in Herning, Belgium's Jerôme Guery as well.

- I believe in Belgium, Brazil, France, Holland.

The underdogs are probably the UK.

The teams are not quite 100 percent topped.

It has been so very big now;

The WC was quite late and we have had a big nation jumping event in Canada, for example, which Sweden won.

At some point the horses have to rest.

But it also means that it will be a very open final to look forward to, says expert Lotta Björe.
