The start took place on Saturday in the mountainous areas a few hours east of the capital Asunción and the first section consisted of a twelve mile long run straight through the mountains.

The race went into the night and the team oriented between different points.

- The night was brutal, it was really difficult orientation and very little water so we have gone dry for long periods, said team captain John Karlsson when he and the team ran down one of the first parts of the second morning: the zipline.

The competition consists of eight different sections and on land there are sections such as a rope ladder or a zipline that must be completed.

The team consists of various officers from the Armed Forces and is the reigning world champion.

In addition to team captain John Karlsson, the team consists of navigator Oskar Svärd (with three Vasalopp wins behind him), Malin Hjalmarsson and Erik Jonsson.

The slightest mistake results in hour-long punishments

The following days consist of long sections – nearly ten miles of paddling, over 25 miles of mountain biking and 20 miles of hiking.

In addition to that, there is really difficult navigation, lack of sleep and all the logistics at the changeover points to change equipment.

And the slightest mistake is punished with long overtime.

The Swedish team pushed and led during large parts of the competition.

But in the end it became too difficult.

The New Zealand team Avaya won ahead of the Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team.

In the end, the margin of victory was several hours.
