Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and American Jack Sock first won the doubles match against Europe's Andy Murray and Matteo Berrettini with 2-6,6-3,10-8 in an even match.

Then it was time for Auger-Alliassime again.

The Canadian beat 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic 6-3,7-6.

Now Europe was under pressure to win the penultimate match and when Tsitspas won the first set 6-1 it looked like it would be decided in the final singles match between the Norwegian Casper Ruud and the American Taylor Fritz.

But Tiafoe gathered strength and eagerly cheered on by his teammates led by John McEnroe saved a match point in the tiebreak in the second set.

He won that tiebreak and then in a dramatic so-called match tiebreak, the American won 10-8.

Europe had won all four Laver Cups played before tonight's decider.
