Berger was back just a little over a month after she walked out in August and told us that the thyroid cancer she defeated four years ago had returned.

- I have said before that as a sportsperson you have to fight every day to be as good as you can be.

It is something I will continue to do and I hope to help others who are in the same situation by sharing my journey through this, she said at the time.

Swedish national team goalkeeper Zecira Musovic guarded the goal in Chelsea's season opener, a loss away to Liverpool, but already in the second match against Manchester City, Berger was back after his cancer treatment.

The Swedish star played the entire match

The German made several high-class saves as Chelsea, champions for the past three years, won 2-0.

Fran Kirby gave Chelsea the lead at the end of the first half and Norway's Maren Mjelde sealed victory with a penalty in the 78th minute.

Chelsea's team captain Magdalena Eriksson played the entire match and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was replaced in extra time.

Filippa Angeldahl got to watch the entire match from Manchester City's bench.
