Motorcycle racer Leon Langstädtler (24) died in an accident during a training run for the final of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Hockenheimring.

During the second free practice session of the IDM Superbike on Friday, Langstädtler fell in a curve and, according to the police, was hit by another rider.

He suffered serious injuries and training was stopped immediately.

The IDM confirmed the death on its website.

The young athlete from Idstein in Hesse, who received immediate medical attention, died at the scene of the accident despite the intensive efforts of the doctors.

According to the police, the second driver involved in the accident was flown to a clinic with a rescue helicopter with serious injuries.
