France opened the World Cup yesterday with a convincing victory against the home nation, and gold contender, Australia.

That game was blown away in today's second group stage match against Canada, where the team probably got food for thought.

France opened sleepily, trailing by twelve points in a low-scoring first half that ended 29-17 to Canada.

- The defense is good, but they have a hard time offensively.

Zero-of-10 from the three-point line, seven-of-25 from two-point range and three-of-six from the free throw line.

Then you don't deserve to be in the match, stated SVT's expert Nick Rajacic at halftime.

The score after three periods played was 45-30 to Canada.

- Only 30 points after three periods is not enough when you play the World Cup.

Those are weak numbers.

They need a fire speech just like you see on film, says Rajacic.

“It was never close”

The ending did not offer any change, but Canada held on and won clearly with 59-45.

Nirra Fields was the top scorer with 17 points and had six rebounds.

- It was never close.

Canada's coaches are winning the coaching battle by huge margins and France have to look themselves in the mirror and figure out what they want to do offensively because they don't quite know it yet.

Canada has now started the World Cup with two straight victories after also defeating Serbia in the first game yesterday.
