Shortly before Roger Federer's last match at the Laver Cup in London, a climate activist caused a stir with a fire and put himself in great danger.
During the second match of the opening day between Stefano Tsitsipas (Greece) and Diego Schwartzman (Argentina), a young man ran onto the pitch, sat down and lit a fire.
He briefly set his right arm on fire.
Security forces put out the small fire and carried the activist, who was wearing a t-shirt that read "No British private jets" on it, out of the concourse.
Tsitsipas: "Hope he's fine"
"It came out of the blue," said Tsitsipas: "I have no idea what it's all about.
Nothing like this has ever happened to me on the pitch.
I hope he's fine.” The match resumed almost five minutes later.
Tsitsipas prevailed 6-2, 6-1 and gave Team Europe a 2-0 lead after Casper Ruud (Norway) had previously beaten Jack Sock (USA).
Federer (41) sat as a spectator on the players' bench, who met Rafael Nadal in the last match of his career in the evening against the US double Sock / Frances Tiafoe.
Before that, the Scot Andy Murray will play against Alex de Minaur from Australia in the night session.
At the Laver Cup, a European team plays against a selection of tennis players from the rest of the world from Friday to Sunday.
It is the last professional tournament in which tennis star Roger Federer will take part.
The Swiss announced last week that he would have to end his career after three knee operations.
