Ex-Brazilian star Kaká participates in the Berlin Marathon

Former Brazil midfielder Kaka begins a new adventure by participating in the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, stressing that he is "as excited as I was before the football matches."

Kaka, 40, who won the 2002 World Cup with his country and defended the colors of Italian Milan and Real Madrid before retiring in 2017, confirmed that his father, who suffered from complications from the Corona virus, was the one who inspired him to race in the marathon.

The former attacking midfielder said in the press conference held Friday in preparation for the start of the Berlin Marathon that his father "was lying in hospital for 45 days."

"Fortunately, he is with us today," he added.

"He will not run, he will only walk, but we wanted him in this experience with us, it is more a family experience" than competitive, added Kaka, who shares his father and brother with him.

The Brazilian considered that marathons are special sporting events because amateurs can participate alongside professionals, stressing, "I am very excited ... Of course, it is completely different from these guys (referring to professionals), this is a good thing in a marathon."

"As an amateur athlete, I can run and at the same time be on the side of the professionals" and "this is really special about the marathon, after that I can say that the best runner in the marathon achieved this time, and at the same time I was running with him."

Kaka hoped to be able to finish the Berlin Marathon in less than 4 hours, and the Ballon d'Or winner for the best player in the world added in 2007, "I want to run about 3 hours and 40 minutes, if I feel good, maybe I can do more."
