The question of VAR is divisive.

In Monday's Fotbollstudion, SVT Sports expert Daniel Nannskog believed that VAR should be implemented in Allsvenskan, while columnist Therese Strömberg does not see a future for the video referee system.

The tool has been used in many European leagues - and now a decision is approaching regarding its introduction also in Swedish elite football.

The decision is on the Swedish Football Association's (SvFF) table after the representative board, consisting of Elite Football Women (EFD), the Swedish Elite Football Association (Sef) and the various districts, gave them the mandate to pursue the issue.

During the month of October, SvFF will send out information to the representative council, which will then be allowed to submit views before a decision is made.

Great opposition among the Allsvenskan teams

Previously, eight clubs had decided to be against the introduction of VAR.

SVT Sport has made a round call to the remaining eight clubs.

Of them, two more clubs have decided at their member meetings to actively take a stand against VAR, which means that 10 out of 16 Allsvenskan clubs now oppose its introduction.

One of the clubs that has not yet decided is BK Häcken.

- Our members have not made a decision yet, but we know that it is being discussed among the supporters, says Malin Fahlén, deputy club manager.

SvFF must send out information

In an email to SVT Sport, SvFF's chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson writes that they will take into account what their members say.

"Our representative body, where the associations appoint their representatives, has democratically given the federal board a mandate to make decisions on the matter and we will of course listen to our members.

This is one of the reasons why we send out current information in the month of October," he writes.

"A possible introduction can take place until the 2024 season at the earliest. It takes a year to implement technology, conduct training, etc."

"A democracy also raises uncomfortable issues"

Mats Enquist takes a positive view of the arrangement, and assumes that SvFF will consider the clubs' opinions.

- I assume that SvFF will factor that into its decision.

The positive thing about this arrangement is that everyone will have their voice heard.

A real democracy also addresses uncomfortable issues, he says.

- Now the question of VAR will pick up speed again.

It will be an autumn with a lot of debate.
