Boston Celtics coach suspended for one season

The Boston Celtics, a competitor in the NBA, officially announced the suspension of its coach, Amy Odoka, for the duration of the 2022/2023 season, due to an "improper" consensual relationship with an employee of the club.

In his first year in office, Odoka led the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010.

But in light of his suspension for a full season, assistant coach Joe Mazzola will take over as coach of the team temporarily, according to ESPN.

Mazola was among the candidates to coach the Utah Jazz, but the position went to Will Hardy, another assistant coach for the Boston Celtics, after Danny Aing, the former Celtics general manager, took charge of the Utah Jazz.

The Boston Celtics announced the imposition of the penalty on his coach through a 46-word statement, and it came as confirmation of what was reported by "ESBN" and "The Athletic" newspaper that the coach would receive the penalty for "violating team policies."

And Odoka issued an apology, saying: "I would like to apologize to our players, our fans, the Celtics entity and my family after I let them down. I apologize for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team's decision. Out of respect for all concerned, I will not make further comments."
