15 players leave the Spain women's team due to a dispute with the coach

Fifteen players decided to leave the Spanish women's football team, due to a dispute with the coach, while the National Football Association announced its support for the latter.

According to a statement issued by the Spanish Federation, each of the players in recess sent the same email claiming that the situation surrounding the national team "seriously" affects their "emotional state" and "health".

And Spanish media have indicated in recent weeks that a number of players want coach Jorge Velda to leave.

On the other hand, the local federation confirmed that it would not allow "the players to question the continuity of the national coach and his technical staff, because making these decisions is not their competence."

He added, denouncing what happened, "(We) will not invite players who do not want to wear the Spain shirt. The Federation will only involve enthusiastic players, even if that means playing with young women."

"It is an unprecedented situation in the history of football, whether for men or women, in Spain or all over the world," he added.

And the Spanish radio Cope reported that among the players who are calling for the coach's departure are Barcelona players, Patri Guijarro, Mabe Leon, Sandra Banos, Aitana Ponmatti, Claudia Pena and Mario Caldente.

The list of opposing voices also includes Una Bateti and Lucia Garcia from Manchester United, in addition to Manchester City players Leila Awahabi and Laya Alexandri.
