Major League Baseball Padres pitcher Yu Darvish has been named the National League Player of the Week, MVP of the Week.

This is the first time Darvish has won the award.

The Major League Organization has awarded one player in each league as a "Weekly MVP" for the most active player in a week, and pitcher Darvish was selected as the weekly MVP from the 12th to the 18th of this month.

During this period, Darvish pitched in two games, had three hits in a total of 14 innings, scored two wins, and led a team aiming to advance to the playoffs.

The 36-year-old Darvish pitcher is the first to win the weekly MVP, and is the first Japanese player since Seiya Suzuki of the Cubs won this April.

Pitcher Darvish has a good record of 15 wins and 7 losses and an ERA of 3.05 so far this season, and is one win away from his personal record of 16 wins in 2012, his first year in the major leagues.
