Leicester boss ready to sack after heavy defeat by Tottenham

Leicester City's under pressure manager Brendan Rodgers said he would respect any decision by the club's owners about his future after the club suffered another painful blow with a 6-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League yesterday.

Leicester broke the deadlock and held on to the competition when they trailed 3-2 with less than 20 minutes left.

But after a quick hat-trick from substitute Son Heung-min, Leicester suffered a sixth straight defeat in the league.

Rodgers' team is in last place, having won only one point from the first seven rounds, and conceded 22 goals.

With the league suspended for two weeks due to the international period, Rodgers will be a strong candidate to leave the position.

Asked if he was feeling the pressure, Rodgers, who took over in February 2019 and led Leicester to a successive fifth place, told Sky Sports: "The pressure is building a lot. I work every day and I totally understand the fans' frustration and I can't hide from it, it's my responsibility."

He added, "No matter what happens, I will keep tremendous respect for the owners because they gave me a lot of support and I understand the game, the result does not reflect the performance but a heavy defeat. For 73 minutes it was a good match for us and we were probably the best party with the chances we created, Hugo Lloris (Tottenham goalkeeper) saved the chance to equalise. 3-3 brilliantly, then we were punished for mistakes."

He continued, "After 4-2 it became an open match, the result looks worse than it appeared on the field, I feel sorry for the players, they did not deserve it."

Despite the catastrophic situation, Rodgers believes his team's ability to change the situation.

"It's a challenge that I will enjoy, we can only look forward."
