Soccer national player Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund apparently suffered a serious injury after just under half an hour in the 181st Revierderby against Schalke 04.

The 33-year-old twisted his right foot in a duel.

He then banged his hand on the lawn, writhing in pain.

After several minutes of treatment, Reus was taken off the pitch on a stretcher to the encouraging applause of BVB fans.

This also makes the end of the two upcoming Nations League games on September 23 in Leipzig against Hungary and on September 26 against England in London seem likely.

The Dortmund captain has often struggled with serious injuries in the past, which also cost him many appearances in the national team.

Among other things, he missed the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 European Championships, and he had canceled the 2021 EURO 2020 for physical reasons.
