Earlier this week, it became clear that the former Örebro and Frölunda goalkeeper Julius Hudacek is returning to the Russian-controlled ice hockey league KHL.

The Slovak, who finished last season at Czech side Sparta Prague, has signed for Kazakh side Barys Nur-Sultan.

- They called me and I am happy that I can go to such a big club as Barys, he said to Slovak RTVS, as quoted by the Czech site sport.cz.

Met Ukrainian boys

Something that makes the transition a little extra remarkable is that as recently as March, Hudacek played a match in the Czech league where the ticket proceeds went to Ukrainian families who fled the war.

On the ice together with Hudacek were, among other things, three Ukrainian boys who fled the war.

But now he is going to play ice hockey in the country like the war against Ukraine, something he admits he thought about.

- It was a moral dilemma.

But if I, as a goalie, or any other ice hockey player, play in the KHL, I don't think it affects the war in Ukraine.

It does not make the Russian aggression continue or not, he says.
