On Wednesday, national team captain Janne Andersson held a press conference where he presented the squad for the Nations League gathering next week.

Among a trio called for the first time was a surprised Patrik Wålemark.

- I knew I was in the gross squad, then I found out that I was in at the same time as you.

So it was a big surprise.

It's a lot of fun, it's going to be a lot of fun, he says and adds:

- It's something you've dreamed about since you were two or three years old, it's huge.

After having his breakthrough in the Allsvenskan with Häcken, Wålemark went to Dutch Feyenoord in January.

After a bit of a start at the new club, he has now come into his own and started the season with a goal and two assists in five league games.

- I have driven more than ever in the pre-season.

So it's nice that it's paying off with goals and assists and now selection for the national team, so it's felt great so far.

"Want to go in and have some for myself"

Patrik Wålemark usually stays outside on the right, where he likes to fold in and find creative solutions with his left foot.

A bit like Dejan Kulusevski.

- Everyone knows how good Dejan is, he plays at a higher level than me.

I prefer the right wing, but I also see myself playing on the left and also as a ten.

Dejan is of course a hell of a player, but I want to go in and take over.

There are quite a few young skilled wingers in Sweden right now with Kulusevski, Anthony Elanga and Jesper Karlsson.

How do you see the competition?

- It's crazy that Sweden has so many young good talents right now, and of course for me to be one of them.

It's huge.

There is now and will continue to be great competition, which I think will only benefit everyone.

That everyone wants to take the place, take over and show that you should be there.
