The diving event of the National Athletic Meet was held in Utsunomiya City, and World Championship silver medalist Rikuto Tamai won the men's high diving event with an overwhelming performance that renewed his personal best.

The National Athletic Meet, which will be held for the first time in three years due to the influence of the new coronavirus, will be held as a "pre-session competition" from September 10th before the opening on October 1st.

On the 14th, the second day of diving was held in Utsunomiya City, and Tamai participated in the final of the boy's high diving as a representative of Hyogo Prefecture.

Tamai, who won the silver medal in this event at the World Championships this year, marked 99.00 with "207B", which took off backwards and turned three and a half backwards in the second performance.

Furthermore, in the last 6th time, he took off backwards and twisted two and a half times while turning backwards two and a half times, almost perfectly deciding "5255B", marking a high score of 108.00.

As a result, Tamai scored 573.55, 24.10 points higher than his personal best in total for six times, and won the championship with a difference of more than 200 points from second place.

Tamai said with a smile, "I was so happy that I entered the match with the determination to surpass his personal best, and it also gave me confidence."

As for the future, he said, "After taking a good rest, I want to overcome the issues that I'm facing, and I want to continue until next year's World Championship qualifying event."
