The WC resort of Planica is not really much of a town, rather a valley with a well-known ski resort.

Instead, the active usually live in nearby Kranjska Gora when there are competitions.

But that will not be the case during the world championship in February-March 2023. There is simply not enough space.

For the Swedish cross-country team, the solution has landed in living on the other side of the border, in Villach, Austria.

- We have rented an entire hotel there where we will have our own chef who makes all the food, says national team manager Anders Byström to Expressen.

Several WC nations do not get a place

It is normally around 40 minutes by car between Villach and Planica, but can be significantly longer during winter, the newspaper writes.

Anders Byström says that it is a tricky road to drive over the mountains, and from a safety point of view he would have liked to find another alternative.

There are several World Cup nations that do not get a place in Kranjska Gora - Norway, for example, has chosen to live in Italy - and according to Byström, this is because the International Ski Federation (FIS) has chosen to fill the hotels with its own staff.

- It feels a little strange.

There is still hotel capacity there.

But it is not possible to get hold of any good accommodation there.

They have sold it to Fis people and others, says Byström.
