The MFF defender injured his right knee badly in Sunday's match against IFK Norrköping, at the end of the first half.

At the time, the club said that an initial examination showed that the anterior cruciate ligament was torn.

An examination was carried out on Monday, with an MRI.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the 36-year-old will miss the rest of the season.

- Niklas was forced to retire in the match against Norrköping with a feared knee injury and after further examinations we can confirm that it is unfortunately a cruciate ligament injury, says Malmö FF's physiotherapist Jesper Robertsson to the club's website.

- Now we are going to plan an operation and after that a longer rehabilitation awaits Niklas, he says further.
