At the end of August, the ice hockey association announced that Swedish players in Russian clubs will be banned from the national team.

Now football has made the same decision.

Swedish players who belong to Russian clubs will not be selected for the Swedish national team.

- The decision is partly based on our opinion that Russia should not participate in our sports as long as the war is going on, and based on the suspension of Russian teams by FIFA and UEFA.

If a Swedish player, who is current for the national team, makes the decision to play in Russia while the unjust war in Ukraine continues, that player is not eligible to represent Sweden, says Karl-Erik Nilsson.

The decision will be clubbed by SvFF on Thursday.

There are currently no Swedish players in Russian clubs.
