• Olympique de Marseille lost Tuesday evening at the Stade Vélodrome against Eintracht Frankfurt (0-1) during the second day of the Champions League.

  • Far from being at the level displayed since the start of the season in the league, the Marseillais never knew how to react after conceding a gag goal just before half-time.

  • This defeat is already very bad from an accounting point of view since OM are the only good last in their group with 0 points, while Sporting Portugal beat Tottenham (2-0).

At the Velodrome stadium,

Olympique de Marseille was unrecognizable on Tuesday evening on its lawn at the Stade Vélodrome, losing 1 goal to 0 against Eintracht Frankfurt during the second day of the Champions League.

The Marseillais conceded a goal gag just before half-time (43rd), without ever being able to return to the match.

A defeat that hurts very badly from an accounting point of view, since Sporting Portugal beat Tottenham (2-0) in the other match of the group.

An opening scoring gag

A stupid goal, moreover at the worst time.

We felt the Marseillais in difficulty in the first half, but we did not think they would concede a goal like this.

On a German attack, it was Valentin Rongier who inadvertently offered a decisive pass to Jesper Lindstrøm when he wanted to intervene.

The midfielder was however one of the worst on the pitch, unlike Payet or Gerson.

A goal conceded in the 43rd minute just before returning to the locker room, difficult to do worse from a mental point of view.

The second half confirmed, OM got worse and worse with far too many approximations in passes or defensive interventions.

And neither Rongier (66th), decidedly, or Suarez (70th), managed to offer the equalizer to their team.

A loss that hurts a lot

This equalizer which never came could have allowed the Marseillais to avoid already, or almost, drawing a line under this Champions League campaign.

After the inaugural and cruel defeat at Tottenham (2-0), and this one more logical, the players of Igor Tudor are last in their group, with 0 points.

Especially since a little earlier in the evening Sporting beat the English (2-0) and are in the lead before a double confrontation against OM.

Mayhem in the stands

It's simple, every time we glanced at the visitors' parking lot during the match, projectiles were flying from their stands towards the north corner.

Tempers got a little heated at the start of the match with fireworks from both sides, before relatively calming down during the game, until the second German goal, finally canceled for an offside position ( 79th).

Earlier, German supporters gave Nazi salutes in the hallways of the stadium, in the direction of Marseille supporters.

They are being identified.

A total of 8 people were arrested, 3 for throwing projectiles, 4 for attempted smoke intrusion and one for violence against a person in charge of authority.
