Sömskar won 7 minutes and 25 seconds ahead of race runner-up Elisa Sardello, Italy, on the 14 kilometer downhill race in Amatrice.
Sömskar's lead in the World Cup is thus large enough for Sunday's sprint that ends the season, that the overall victory is already secured.
The 33-year-old from Umeå has developed into a real roller ski specialist and, in addition to VC titles, has a number of WC gold medals on his track record.

Next season, however, will be different for Sömskar, who has recently chosen to combine his continued elite efforts with studies.
