Niclas Füllkrug did not make any allegations against Marvin Ducksch.

“I think he wanted to score his first goal and break that curse a bit.

Then that just happens, ”said Füllkrug.

But Ducksch's hand penalty in injury time in Werder Bremen's 1-0 defeat against FC Augsburg cost Bremen a point.

"Everyone can imagine that that's disappointing," said Werder coach Ole Werner.

"The bottom line for all of us."

Füllkrug has already converted two penalties this season, most recently in the 2-0 away win at VfL Bochum.

Ducksch assumed responsibility on Friday evening, although the 28-year-old had not had a shot in the previous five league games.

"It's always a matter of negotiation on the pitch, because you never know who feels how in the situation.

We've done very well with that in the past," Werner explained about the procedure for penalty kicks and announced that he would stick to it.

problems at home games

Because Ermedin Demirovic scored for the guests after 63 minutes and Ducksch failed because of Augsburg's goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz, Werder Bremen's second defeat of the season was certain.

The North Germans have also been waiting for a home win for 18 months.

"We played badly for 90 minutes," complained captain Marco Friedl.

"Again we don't get what we want to do at home."

Coach Werner said after the game: "Of course you want to give not only the fans, but also ourselves, a sense of achievement, especially at home in front of your own audience".

In the home games, however, his team "certain little things didn't happen that way".

Clemens Fritz didn't like to boil the topic up either.

"I don't want to read too much into it either.

We'll stay true to ourselves and won't let that bother us at all," assured Werder's head of professional football and scouting.

The statistics speak a clear language.

Of the eight points, the promoted team, who has been so lively up to now, scored seven away.

Nothing countable at home apart from a 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart in the last minute.

The last home win in the Bundesliga dates from the relegation season on February 26, 2021 (2-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt).

In the game against Augsburg, the penalty kick was the highlight of a turbulent final phase in the Weser Stadium, which was sold out with 41,000 spectators.

After the penalty whistle, there were minutes of discussion between Augsburg and referee Martin Petersen.

"It was too hot for me.

That had nothing to do with football anymore.

I didn't understand it either," Fullkrug complained in the direction of the Augsburg professionals.

He certainly meant the behavior of Augsburg goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz, who angered the crowd with sweeping gestures.

Clemens Fritz called the actions a "tick over the top": "It's not like nobody notices if someone kicks the penalty spot.

He's doing himself the least of a favor and can think about it again and make it up to himself," said the former professional.

Coach Werner also found Augsburg's reactions after the decision in added time at least questionable.

"The scenes speak for themselves when you look at what happened in the final phase," said Werner.

"Everyone has to know and evaluate it for themselves."
