It has been decided that the 2025 Summer Deaflympics, an international sports competition for people with hearing impairments held once every four years, will be held in Tokyo.

It will be the first time for the event to be held in Japan.

This was decided at the General Assembly of the International Deaf Sports Committee held in Vienna, Austria on the 10th.

The All Japan Federation of the Deaf proposed and ran for the event, making use of the legacy of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics by utilizing competition venues in Fukushima and Shizuoka Prefectures, centering on Tokyo.

According to the plan, it will be held for 12 days from November 15th to 26th, 2025, and about 5000 to 6000 athletes from about 80 countries and regions around the world are expected to participate.

It will be the first time that the Deaflympics will be held in Japan.

At the summer tournament in Brazil held in May this year, some of the Japanese team were confirmed to be infected with the new corona, and although they declined to participate in the middle, they won 30 medals, the highest number ever.

Fujisaburo Ishino, Chairman of the All Japan Federation of the Deaf, said, "We are proud to have been selected as the host city. With a history of nearly 100 years, the first Deaflympics in Japan will be a great opportunity for people with and without disabilities to come together. By promoting barrier-free communication and information, this will be a further step toward realizing a world in which no one is left behind.”
