Juan Mata joins Turkish side Galatasaray

Turkish Super League club Galatasaray said last night that it had signed former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata for two years for 1.9 million euros ($1.91 million).

The Turkish club clarified that the second year of Mata's contract will be optional.

Mata, 34, joined Manchester United from London's Chelsea in 2014 and participated in 285 matches with the team, winning the FA Cup, the League Cup and the European League in eight years.

Mata, an outstanding playmaker, scored 51 goals and contributed 47 scoring chances for United, but he did not consistently provide the outstanding performance he gave Chelsea and made him a key element in his attacking line.

The Turkish club also announced its loan agreement with Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, player of Paris Saint-Germain, until the end of the current season (2022-2023).

Galatasaray also signed a four-year contract with Arsenal's London midfielder Lucas Torreira, who came from Uruguay last month.
