France's Caroline Garcia has reached the semi-finals of the US Open in New York and celebrated the greatest individual success of her career at a Grand Slam tournament.

The 28-year-old prevailed against young US star Coco Gauff (18) on Wednesday night after an outstanding performance 6: 3, 6: 4.

The strong Garcia is only the third French woman in the professional era after Amélie Mauresmo (2002, 2006) and Mary Pierce (2005) to make it into the top four at the US Open.

At the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, she has not lost a set in five games so far.

Gauff, who some trust to succeed tennis icon Serena Williams, found no remedy against Garcia's dominant game.

In the semifinals, Garcia meets Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur.

The Tunisian had previously prevailed 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 4) against Ajla Tomljanovic, who had thrown Serena Williams out of the competition in the third round.

Khachanov in the semifinals against Ruud

Nick Kyrgios missed the men's semifinals of the US Open.

Two days after his outstanding victory against defending champion Daniil Medvedev, the Australian had to admit defeat to the Russian Karen Khachanov 5:7, 6:4, 5:7, 7:6 (7:3) and 4:6 in a five-set thriller .

During the game, Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios, who made too many mistakes, had his calf treated.

Khachanov meets Norwegian Casper Ruud in his first Grand Slam semifinal on Friday.

Ruud, seeded number five, had previously defeated Italian Matteo Berrettini in three sets 6:1, 6:4, 7:6 (7:4) and was the first Norwegian in tournament history to qualify for the round of the best four players.

If he reaches the final, Ruud could take over the world rankings from the Russian Medvedev after the event.
