The Tunisian Ons Jabeur made it to the final at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

Once there she lost to Jelena Rybakina but only the semi-final was historic as no African woman even made it to the top four of a grand slam.

Now the world number five has repeated that feat after winning in two straight sets, 6–4, 7–6 (7–4), in the quarterfinals of the US Open against 46th-ranked Tomljanovic.

Will face Garcia in the semi-finals

The 29-year-old Australian had earlier in the tournament proved to be a solid opponent when she knocked out Serena Williams, in what may very well have been the world star's last tennis match of her career.

- Maybe it didn't look like I was particularly happy on the track, but I really just tried not to get frustrated.

It's tough to face players as physical as Ajla, I just tried to focus to do the job that was required, Jabeur told Eurosport after the match.

Gauff knocked out in two straight

In the semi-finals, the French Caroline Garcia, who knocked out the American starlet Coco Gauff, is now waiting.

- My head just spins, I can't put into words how I feel, says Garcia after the match.

Earlier this summer, Gauff became the youngest grand slam finalist at 18 when she reached the final of the French Championships, just 18 years old.

But last night the 18-year-old was barely allowed into the match and Garcia won in straight sets – 6–3, 6–4.
