For its return to the Champions League, after two years of absence, Olympique de Marseille (OM) did not have to be ashamed, this September 7, 2022 in London.
This first confrontation between OM and Spurs was even for a time to the advantage of the French club.
Far from being timid, the Marseillais are indeed making a serious start.
They are dominating on the Spurs lawn, in the first period.
A domination however sterile.
Because only a long shot from midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi (45th + 1) puts the opposing goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, in difficulty.
The Spurs, discreet them, are satisfied with a shot too crossed from their star striker Harry Kane (40th).
The exclusion of Chancel Mbemba, a turning point
This meeting actually switches just after the break.
While striker Heung-min Son rushes towards the Olympian goal, the Congolese Chancel Mbemba unbalances the South Korean in the position of last defender, thus annihilating a scoring opportunity.
With his logical exclusion, the Phocaeans find themselves reduced to 10 against 11.
For nearly half an hour, however, they resist the enemy attacks.
But two uncrossed headers from Brazilian winger Richarlison (76', 81'), left too free, free Tottenham.
Two attempts on target for the Londoners, two achievements.
Cruel for OM…
