The Finnish women's lions had won medals in three straight WCs and two straight Olympics.

But from the WC in Denmark in 2022, they will not get a medal.

It is clear after tonight they lost the quarter-final against the Czech Republic after extra time.

- We entered the match well and had the keys to victory in our hand, but could not manage it, says Juuso Toivola in a TV interview after the match, according to the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.

Hiirikoski lost the puck

The decision came after just 41 seconds of overtime play.

Luleå defender Jenni Hiirikoski dropped the puck in her own zone, whereupon the Czech Republic's Aneta Tejralova scored the match-deciding goal.

- It was a bitter way the match was decided.

The match ended after an own mistake, says Hiirikoski to TV5, according to Ilta-Sanomat.

- But maybe the sun will rise tomorrow anyway.
