The last time Frölunda and HC Mountfield met was in the CHL final in 2020. Then Frölunda won 3–1 after Max Friberg sent in the match-deciding 2–1 goal already at the end of the first period.

In tonight's CHL premiere, he stayed ahead again.

First, Friberg scored the 3–1 goal on the power play, nicely set up by Ryan Lasch, and then he poked home the psychologically important 4–2 goal midway through the third period, just minutes after Mountfield's 3–2 deficit.

After that, the guests from the Czech Republic couldn't get up and thus it was a three-pointer for Frölunda in the CHL premiere.
