He won the Players Championship and finished second in the US Masters last spring and then won the British Open this summer.

He thus climbed to second place in the world ranking.

Earlier this week, he became the latest in a row, as well as the highest-ranked, player to pick bets on the controversial LIV tour.

Something he is critical of.

- It's really a shame that we don't get any world ranking points, he says ahead of his debut on the tour, which takes place in Boston tomorrow.

- To have 48 of the best players in the world playing a competition, and then not getting any world ranking points, I think that is maybe a bit unfair.

Critical to major stops

It is something that both Smith and other players are critical of.

- When it comes to majors and everything like that, I think it can hurt them that some might miss the competitions, says Mar Leishman, for example.
