Björn Edlund took over as national team captain last spring, but the first big goal for the team – the WC on home soil – was a failure.

Denmark needed a point against Germany to clinch a historic quarter-final spot.

For a long time it looked like it was going to be that way.

But with one second left in the game, the Germans completed the turnaround from 1-2 to 3-2.

Denmark instead finished last in the group and is relegated from the A-WC.

- At first it was somehow empty.

It kind of dies off.

Then our feeling was that they were on the goalie, it was a skate in the goal yard.

When we saw the pictures, a spark of hope was lit again that maybe it could go our way after all.

We want to try to challenge the decision, it didn't work.

We had it turned down and they awarded goals.

Then it became reality again.

Björn Edlund, who is also sports manager at Modo, signed a two-season contract with Denmark last spring.

- Right now, first of all, I have to digest what has happened.

Then our long-term goal is to make it to the Olympics in 2026. We want to set a new foundation and make some changes in how the work looks in both the national team environment and the club environment.
