Tennis professional Andrea Petkovic announced the end of her career on the sidelines of the US Open on Sunday.

"I'm still leaving the option open to add a tournament in Europe that's a bit closer to my family and friends - but in general this is my last tournament here," said the 34-year-old in an interview with the ARD "Sportschau “.

"Maybe it's already over here in New York."

According to Petkovic, the decision has been made.

Talking about it is still difficult for her.

This Monday she wants to talk more about her decision.

A few days ago, Petkovic posted a training video on Instagram with the caption "The last dance."

In her match at the US Open, she is considered a clear outsider against Swiss Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.

Petkovic has won a total of nine WTA Tour titles since her debut pro season in 2006.

In 2011, after two quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the US Open, she reached her best place in the world rankings with ninth place.

The Darmstadt native celebrated her greatest success in Paris in 2014 when she was only eliminated in the semi-finals of the French Open.

With the German Fed Cup team she was in the final in 2014, which was lost to the Czech Republic.

Overall, Petkovic played 18 matches for Germany and won 13 singles.
