The Serbian tennis ace himself wrote about the news, which was not entirely unexpected, on Twitter.
“Sadly, I will not be able to travel to New York for the US Open this time.
I will stay positive and in good shape and look forward to the opportunity to compete again," writes Djokovic.
Djokovic also missed the season's first grand slam, the Australian open, when he was denied a visa to Australia for the same reason.
The 35-year-old has won 21 grand slam titles, including Wimbledom earlier this year.
