The race to succeed
Real Madrid
on the throne of the
Champions League
begins this Thursday, August 25, at 6:00 p.m., with the draw for the group stage in Istanbul, the city that will host the next final.
The League will have four representatives: Real Madrid will be in the first pot, as champions of the Champions League and the League, while
Barcelona
,
Atlético de Madrid
and
Sevilla
will be in pot 2. However, the rules of the draw prevent the confrontation between teams from the same championship in this first round.
The World Cup in Qatar -from November 20 to December 18- has forced to compress the calendar and the group stage will begin on September 6 and 7 and end on November 1 and 2.
On November 7, the draw for the round of 16 will be held.
During the gala, the best players of last season for UEFA will also be awarded, with
Karim Benzema
and
Alexia Putellas
as big favorites to win the awards.
Top coaches will also be recognized.
In the men's category,
Carlo Ancelotti
(Real Madrid),
Pep Guardiola
(Manchester City) and
Jürgen Klopp
(Liverpool) will compete.
As for the women's award, the candidates are the French
Sonia Bompastor

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg
, Germany coach, and the Dutch
