A few days after the end of the atmospheric European Championships, an open conflict broke out between organizers and associations.

The German Athletics Association (DLV) and the German Rowing Association (DRV) clearly rejected criticism from the Olympiapark boss Marion Schöne for the supposed lack of support for the multi-EM.

In a lengthy statement on Wednesday, the DLV stated that it had "promoted cooperation with Olympiapark München GmbH at an early stage and against the background of hosting an extremely successful home European Championship in 2018 and the home World Cup in 2009, both in Berlin extent offered his expertise".

A corresponding offer from 2019 was rejected.

"For the first time in history, the national association was not involved in organizing the EM in 2022, which from the point of view of the DLV and many other associations is an unusual and suboptimal solution," said the association.

There was only cooperation between the DLV and Olympiapark GmbH in the training and selection of referees and the event application: This was characterized "by high expectations on the part of the OMG and little understanding of sport-specific needs".

The association was amazed at Schöne's criticism - it corresponded "in no way to the feedback that was expressed in the various personal discussions and meetings".

"The topic actively played"

The rowers had also countered criticism.

“The DRV has actively covered the topic of European Championships both via social media and internal club mailings and of course also referred to ticket sales.

We reach our target groups most effectively via these channels," the association said in response to a SID request.

There, the DRV has "significantly better coverage than on the website, on which we also regularly published reports." The DLV also stated that it had advertised the event intensively.

In an SZ interview, Schöne had criticized the lack of help from numerous associations.

Athletics and rowing were explicitly mentioned.

There you were “somewhere far behind on the website, that was it with the support.

You don’t understand the world anymore,” Schöne explained.

In addition, the OMG was stuck at many costs, the DLV had "clearly made mood against the Olympic Park".
