After the big Finnish club Jokerit withdrew from the Russian league KHL, they are now aiming for a comeback in the Finnish league.

The club's plan is to return to the league for the 2023/2024 season but who will own and manage the club is still unclear

Teemu Selänne, who broke through in the club, has with his company Naurava Narri Oy been in the running to lead the project and to own the club.

The company states that they have had discussions with the league about the licensing process.

Also that they investigated arena alternatives because the former home arena is in Russian ownership and cannot be used for games.

But now the company announces that the association has chosen to end the negotiations.

"Our goal has been to create long-term and stable support for the junior activities that Helsingin Jokerit ry is responsible for.

In addition, we wanted to commit to professional representative hockey in the domestic league, which leans back on own player development and starts from a clean slate," says Teemu Selänne in the press release.

After the announcement from Selänne's company, the league announced that another group had contacted the league regarding the club's return to the league.

"Earlier this week, another group came forward - possibly it could be a wider grouping.

They contacted us and told us about their plans to come out with their league project," the league writes on its website according to Yle.
