On Monday in a week, the US Open starts in New York.

The vast majority of the players on the WTA tour are already in North America to warm up for the last grand slam of the year.

83rd-ranked Rebecca Peterson faced Nuria Parrizas Diaz, ranked 64th, in the round of 16 in Granby, Canada.

The players had met twice before, both of which had been won by Peterson.

But it was as late as 2013 and this time it was a difficult story for the Swede, who lost in two straight sets, 6–2, 6–1.

Peterson is the only Swede who will participate in the US Open.

On the men's side, Mikael Ymer is directly qualified for the grand slam tournament, while his brother Elias Ymer needs to qualify.
