Zerei Kbrom Mezngi managed to get a big gap down to the others in the 10,000-meter race in Munich.
During the last lap he was still in the lead and then he passed Lillefosse who gave way, applauded and cheered on his compatriot and roommate.
- It was completely crazy.
I saw on the big screen that he had gotten a gap.
Then I thought I must try to cheer him on in the last corner, says Lillefosse.
Before the finish, the Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa managed to pass Mezngi.
But the Norwegian held off the others and took a surprising silver.
It was the first time Mezngi, who was born in Eritrea, represented Norway in a championship.
- I was extremely happy.
I started to cry a little when I finished second.
People didn't see it in me, but I cried.
