The 18th World Athletics Championships, which lasted for 10 days, just ended in Eugene, USA in July this year, and the "ticket battle" for the 2023 Budapest Athletics World Championships has already started.

On August 19, the World Athletics Federation officially announced the qualification system and finalist performance criteria for the Budapest World Championships.

Compared with the performance standards of the Eugene World Championships, which are called "the most difficult in history", the threshold of the Budapest World Championships has been further raised, which can be called "more difficult".

The 2023 Budapest Athletics World Championships will be held from August 19th to 27th, 2023, with a total of 49 events. Competitors can qualify for the competition by either reaching the standard or the world ranking. The representative team of each country and region Up to 3 qualified athletes may be sent to compete in the same event.

Compared with the finalist performance standards of the 2022 Eugene World Championships, except for the men's high jump and the women's javelin, the performance standards of the remaining 42 individual events have all been improved.

Taking the 100-meter event as an example, the standards for men's and women's finalists have been raised from 10.05 and 11.15 at the Eugene World Championships to 10.00 and 11.08 at the Budapest World Athletics Championships.

At present, among the Chinese men's 100-meter trapeze, only Su Bingtian and Xie Zhenye have the best time of less than 10 seconds, but it is not easy to achieve 10.00 seconds.

In the men's 100-meter showdown at the Eugene World Championships, only Su Bingtian of the Chinese team participated.

The third player in active duty, the "post-00" teenager Chen Guanfeng's personal best of 10 seconds 06, is still a certain distance from the standard line.

In the women's 100m, although Ge Manqi's historical personal best score of 11.04 is able to reach the standard, her score has been hovering below 11.10 in the past two years, and the situation is also not optimistic.

Judging from the advantages of Chinese track and field, the field events are basically dominated at present, including men's long jump, triple jump, women's shot put, discus, javelin, and women's 20km and 35km race walking.

Among them, Wang Jianan and Feng Bin, as the champions of the new world championships, do not need to worry about their qualifications. They have automatically won a wild card for the Budapest Track and Field World Championships.

In the men's triple jump and women's shot put and other events, although the standard line has been raised, it is not difficult for Chinese players who have the strength to compete for gold and silver.

The standard of women's javelin is slightly lowered, and it is also a good opportunity for Chinese players to continue to win gold and silver.

The compliance period for different projects also varies.

Among them, the compliance period for the marathon and 35-kilometer race walking events is from December 1, 2021 to May 30, 2023; the compliance period for the 10,000-meter, 20-kilometer race walking and all-around events is from January 31, 2022 to July 2023. July 30; the compliance window for other projects starts on July 31, 2022 and ends on July 30, 2023.

This means that the "ticket" battle for athletes in all sports has now begun.

As in previous editions, in addition to reaching the standards, athletes can also qualify for the World Championships based on their world ranking positions in the ranking system after the qualifying rounds are over.

In addition, in the 2022 season, the overall champions of the Diamond League events and the continental championships of some events can also automatically get tickets to the World Championships.

For Chinese track and field, the further improvement of the World Championships performance standards will undoubtedly make it more difficult for athletes to qualify for the World Championships.

Due to the postponement of the Eugene World Championships for one year, the preparation period for the Budapest World Championships has been further compressed, and it is also required that China's track and field will arrange the preparation work more compactly, efficiently and reasonably in the coming year.

Creating more opportunities for athletes to reach the standard is undoubtedly a top priority.

Entering the 2023 season, the two international competitions, the World Indoor Championships and the World Relay, will be held in Nanjing and Guangzhou respectively. In particular, the Guangzhou World Relay will be a direct promotion opportunity for the relay events of the Budapest World Championships. Players have a good chance of reaching the target.
